TRS Rescue/Work

Prepares individuals/teams to respond to non-IDLH CS rescues
Hours: 45 hours (four 10-hour days and one 1/2 day)
Prerequisite: None
Standard Emphasis: NFPA 1006 & 1670, ANSI Z359, OSHA 1910.146, 1910 Subpart D, 1926.500

Attendees will learn to respond to rescue situations in the industrial and municipal arenas, including rescues from height, fall protection, and confined spaces. This course focuses on advanced techniques using basic rope rescue equipment. Team-oriented rope skills will include assisting in maintenance inspection and repairs.

This course meets OSHA rescue team training compliance requirements for rescue from NON-IDLH Confined Spaces. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate outlining qualification to the appropriate JPRs of NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications standard chapter 5 “Rope Rescue” and Chapter 7 “Confined Space Rescue.”

TRS Rescue/Work II

Prepares individuals/teams to respond to IDLH confined space rescues
Hours: 45 hours (four 10-hour days and one  1/2 day)
Prerequisite: TRS Rescue/Access or comparable course
Standard Emphasis: NFPA 1006 & 1670, ANSI Z359, OSHA 1910.146, 1910 Subpart D, 1926.500

Building on the fundamentals of approaching difficult-to-reach areas, participants in the industrial and municipal arenas will increase their knowledge of working at height utilizing rope access techniques. This course will improve timely C/S response utilizing advanced NON-IDLH and IDLH scenarios, including SCBA and SAR for rescue in IDLH. Upon successful completion, students receive a certificate outlining qualification to the appropriate JPRs of NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications standard chapter 5 “Rope Rescue” and Chapter 7 to the Technician level for Confined Space Rescue.
Skills Include: SCBA /SAR rescues, rappelling, suspended-victim line transfers, advanced ropes/rigging & anchor systems, lowering/hauling/belay, patient packaging, attendants, highlines, and rope ascension.

 

TRS Rescue Work II

Confined Space Rescue Technician Certification

Covers the NFPA job requirements for CS rescue “technician level”
Hours: 60 hours (six 10-hour days)
Prerequisite: None

Available as an open or private class, this course trains individuals/teams to respond to both IDLH and non-IDLH confined space rescues. The curriculum covers the rope rescue skills needed to perform rescues from horizontal and vertical spaces at ground level and elevated vessels.

  • At the conclusion of this course, students will have met all job performance requirements for NFPA 2021 Chapter 7 “Confined Space Rescue” to the “technician level” and will be given the opportunity to test out for certification to NFPA 1006 standard. (Testing out to the NFPA standard is an excellent way to help document a rescuer or teams’ competency to meet the OSHA requirements for confined space rescue.)

Confined Space Rescue Technician Certification

Trench Rescue Technician

Prepares individuals/teams to apply advanced techniques in trench environments
Hours; 30 hours (three 10-hour days)
Prerequisite: None

Focuses on the skills required for technician-level trench rescue, including site operations, victim management, PPE and rescue equipment use and maintenance, soil physics and classifications, collapse causes and types, patient removal and packaging, protective shoring systems (both wood and pneumatic), shielding systems, and straight, intersecting and deep trench rescue techniques.

  • Students will learn to apply advanced techniques in trench environments to meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 (2021) technician, “Standards for Technical Rescuer” – Chapters 12.
  • This course meets the competency requirements for OSHA 1926.650 as well as NFPA 1006 Chapter 12 “Trench Rescue” Technician level.

Trench Rescue Technician

Structural Collapse and Shoring Concepts

Prepares individuals/teams to apply emergency rescue techniques for structural collapse environments
Hours: 50 hours (five 10-hour days)
Prerequisite:  TRS Rescue/Work  or Equivalent

This class is built on the premise of utilizing tools and equipment stored on Municipal Fire Department apparatus. Students will learn size-up techniques and how to create an action plan. They will learn emergency rescue techniques for structural collapse environments and gain skills in searching, breaching, cribbing, heavy lifting, removal of concrete and structural steel, and victim extrication.

  • Meets the NFPA 1006 (2021) technician-level requirements for Chapter 6.

Structural Collapse and Shoring Concepts

Fall Protection

Teaches industrial teams to respond to confined space and rescue from height
Hours: 50 hours (five 10-hour days)
Prerequisite: None

This hands-on course includes all the skills necessary to respond to confined space incidents, rescue from height, and rescue from fall protection. All of these skills are required by OSHA for industrial rescue teams. This well-rounded course includes skills and scenario-based training to allow a team to handle the types of technical rope rescues that occur in industrial environments. It also helps document a team’s ability to respond to these incidents as required by OSHA.

Vehicle Extrication Technician

Teaches common vehicle rescue and heavy vehicle rescue skills
Hours: 30 hours (three 10-hour days)
Prerequisite: None

This hands-on course includes scene safety; hazard mitigation; vehicle stabilization; the use of hand tools, power tools, and hydraulic rescue tools; and patient stabilization and removal.

  • Designed to meet the NFPA 1006 (2021) job performance requirements for both Chapter 8 “Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue” and Chapter 9 “Heavy Vehicle Rescue.”
